ROUTINE EYE EXAMS
SCHEDULE AN EYE EXAM IN MIDDLETOWN KY
Your eyes are constantly changing. Adults should have a routine eye exam every one to two years – not just adults who need glasses or contacts! Serious eye conditions, like glaucoma, can begin to damage your vision before you ever notice a symptom. Our physician wants you to have healthy vision for years to come, and he can help make sure that happens. Our practice serves patients in Middletown and Louisville KY and surrounding areas.

EYE EXAM FAQS
WILL I HAVE MY EYES DILATED AT MY EYE EXAM APPOINTMENT?
It is dependent on what your eye exam appointment is for. We dilate patients if they have not been seen in over a year or if they have decreased vision that can not be corrected.
CAN I DRIVE AFTER MY EYES ARE DILATED?
Yes you can and most people do. The dilation usually only affects your near (reading) vision, distance is not usually a problem. However, if you feel more comfortable having a driver after being dilated, please bring someone with you.
WHAT IS ASTIGMATISM?
Astigmatism is the shape of your eye. Instead of it being round like a basketball, it is more oval like a football (flatter in one direction and steeper in the other). Schedule an eye exam today if you are concerned you may have astigmatism.
WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF ASTIGMATISM?
The most common symptom is blurry vision, but some patients actually experience double vision because of astigmatism. Schdule an eye exam if you are experiencing blurry or double vision.
WHAT IS THE CAUSE OF ASTIGMATISM?
It is usually congenital, meaning that you were born with it. Other causes include eye disease, eye injury or previous eye surgery. Astigmatism can also change with age.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN NEARSIGHTEDNESS (MYOPIA) AND FARSIGHTEDNESS (HYPEROPIA)?
Nearsightedness means you can not see clearly at a distance. Farsightedness means you can not see clearly up close but this usually does not occur until you are in your 40s or 50s. Schedule an eye exam today if you have questions about your nearsightedness or farsightedness.
WILL MEDICARE PAY FOR AN EYE EXAM?
Once you’ve met your deductible, Medicare pays 80%. However, a refraction fee of $40 may be collected the day of your visit. A refraction fee is not covered by most insurances (including Medicare) and is used to determine your best-corrected vision potential and is part of a full eye exam at our office. A refraction is also necessary if you request a glasses prescription.
